Documents You Need for a Personal Trailer Loan

Having your paperwork ready is the quickest way to an approval. Here's what's usually needed for a trailer loan in your own name.

About you

  • Driver licence (and sometimes a second form of ID)
  • Your address history, usually for the last few years
  • Employment details: employer, role and how long you've been there

Your income

  • Recent payslips, usually the last two
  • Bank statements showing your pay going in. Many lenders use a secure online link instead of PDFs.
  • If self-employed: tax returns or notices of assessment
  • If on government payments: a Centrelink income statement

Your expenses and debts

Lenders will ask about rent or mortgage, other loans, credit card limits, and everyday spending. Be accurate. They'll compare what you say with your bank statements.

The trailer

  • Dealer invoice or private sale details
  • Make, model, year and VIN or serial number
  • Registration details
  • For private sales: seller's ID and a PPSR search

Tips to avoid delays

  • Check your bank statements before sending them. Unusual transactions are better explained upfront.
  • Make sure the name on your ID matches your application exactly.
  • Reply quickly if the lender asks for anything extra.

Common Questions

Usually, if you're employed. Some lenders verify income through your bank statements instead.
