Jet Ski and Trailer Loans
A jet ski, or personal watercraft (PWC), is almost always bought with its trailer. Here's how financing the package works and what to check before you buy.
One loan for the ski and trailer
Most lenders finance a jet ski and its trailer together as a single marine loan, often with safety gear and accessories included if they're on the same invoice. The ski and trailer together are the security, and you make one repayment.
New or used?
New skis from major brands are straightforward to finance. Used skis are popular and financeable too, but lenders and buyers should look at engine hours, service history and condition. Hours matter more than age on a PWC.

Checking the trailer
- Rust on the frame, springs and axle from salt water
- Bunks and winch in good condition
- Wheel bearings, which suffer from regular dunking
- Lights, wiring and registration
Single and double ski trailers are common. If you might add a second ski later, a double trailer can save buying twice.
Running costs
Budget for insurance, registration for the ski and trailer, fuel, servicing and storage. Skis need regular flushing and servicing, especially after salt water.
Licences
You'll need a licence to operate a PWC, and requirements differ between states. Check your state's maritime authority before you buy, so you're ready to ride when it arrives.
Buying privately
Run a PPSR search on both the ski's hull ID and the trailer's VIN, and never pay a deposit before seeing them in person. See our private sale guide.
